Vibrating screen: initial separation of large particles

The vibrating screen is the first checkpoint of the mud solids control system. It drives the screen box to vibrate at high frequency through a motor, so that the mud moves quickly on the screen surface. Depending on the different apertures of the screen, larger solid particles in the mud, such as drill cuttings, can be separated. The material and aperture selection of the screen are very critical. A high-quality screen should not only have good wear resistance, but also be able to accurately control the size of the separated particles to meet the needs of different drilling conditions.



Desander: Removes medium-sized particles

After the initial treatment of the vibrating screen, the mud will enter the desander. The desander mainly works on the principle of centrifugal force. The mud enters the cyclone from the tangential direction at a certain pressure. During the high-speed rotation, due to the action of centrifugal force, the solid particles such as sand with higher density are thrown to the wall of the device, and move downward along the wall and discharged from the sand discharge port at the bottom; while the mud with lower density flows out from the overflow port at the top. The key technology of the desander lies in the structural design of the cyclone and the control of the working pressure. The appropriate structure and pressure can ensure efficient sand removal.



Desilter: Fine processing of small particles

The working principle of the desilter is similar to that of the desander, which is also based on centrifugal force. However, the desilter is mainly used to remove finer mud particles in the mud. Its cyclone diameter is relatively small, which can generate greater centrifugal force to separate micron-level particles. The desilter plays an important role in controlling the solid content of the mud and improving the quality of the mud, and is crucial to ensure the stable performance of the drilling fluid.



Centrifuge: Deep solid-liquid separation

The centrifuge is a key device for deep solid-liquid separation in mud solid control equipment. It uses a high-speed rotating drum to make the solid and liquid phases in the mud be subjected to different centrifugal forces in the centrifugal field, thereby achieving efficient separation. The centrifuge can further refine the mud, recover the useful components in it, and reduce the discharge of waste. Its key technology lies in the speed control of the drum, the adjustment of separation accuracy, and the level of automation control. Advanced centrifuges can realize intelligent operation, improve work efficiency and separation effect.



Mud solids control equipment uses the coordinated work of vibrating screens, desanders, desilters, centrifuges and other equipment to gradually separate solid particles in the mud from coarse to fine, ensuring mud performance and facilitating energy extraction operations.
